In this article, we will try to give you some tips that will help you understand how to repaint your shoes yourself, giving your favorite things a second life.

This is a very simple and budgetary way to transform your shoes. You just need to follow some rules and sequences.

It is important to remember that shoes are made from different materials, each of which needs a unique approach. For example, if you want to remove the flaws of white shoes, you need to be extremely careful when cleaning. Alcohol and acetone must not be used as this may damage the finish. Otherwise, the same algorithm is used for painting shoes.

The first step is to prepare the shoes for future painting. In order for the paint to lay perfectly, you need to clean and degrease the surface well. First you need to remove dust and dirt, residues of cream or wax from the shoes. To do this, there are special cleaners, which, as a rule, come complete with paint, but you can also use improvised means. For example, you can make a soapy solution and remove dirt with a cloth, you can add a small amount of ammonia.

Dyeing shoes at home is not difficult if you follow some rules. Prepare a place where you will do this, away from children and food, preferably outside or in the open air.

Preparing for painting

First you need to thoroughly clean, rinse and dry the shoes. We make a washing solution ourselves: 4 parts of soapy water to one part of ammonia. Thoroughly rub the solution, rinse the product in cold water, blot with a smooth cloth over steam.

Important! If there are greasy stains on the shoes, you can sprinkle them with talcum powder, then blow the material with a jet of air.

Coating technology for wool

There are several methods. The most common is dyeing suede shoes with special wool products.

Important! We use this method because these two materials have common porous properties, and the pigment will lie flat and absorb correctly.

Painting order:

1. After the thing has dried, dilute the paint in warm water.
2. Add vinegar to the solution. 3-4 times with an interval of 20 minutes, rub the paint evenly into the material.
3. Dry the item.
4. Treat dry shoes with a 1% vinegar solution.

Wool dye is the easiest and cheapest way to color a product. But if it didn’t work, or you didn’t find the composition of the color you need, what else can you dye suede shoes with?

How to dye white leather shoes

White shoes, especially leather ones, no less than other products, and sometimes more, need timely tinting. It is not uncommon for a person, awkwardly stumbling, to beat the toe of such a model, as a result of which a problem arises that can only be eliminated by painting over.

We paint such shoes in the following order:

• first, using a special tool that can be purchased at a shoe store, you need to remove the remnants of wax, old paint or cream from the surface of the product;
• after 2 hours, paint can be applied (the shade of which must first be selected in the most careful way) with a sponge;
• if the layer is absorbed into the shoes quickly enough, after it dries, additional paint should be applied;
• after a day, you need to apply a special agent to care for its surface on white skin and carefully brush it.

How to dye faux leather

Each person can paint shoes at home, the main thing is to approach this matter without haste and carefully select compositions that will qualitatively lie on the surface of any material. Each structure needs a specific staining technique and a specific medium.

Artificial leather tolerates staining well, and almost any composition falls on it quite neatly without much effort.

If you need to color a part of the shoe, it makes sense to use paper tape, which can be used to mark clear boundaries. The whole staining procedure consists in the sequential execution of three stages:

• shoe cleaning;
• surface degreasing;
• applying paint.

It is worth noting that when painting boots or shoes, you need to carefully apply the composition to the area of ​​\u200b\u200bseams and joints, trying to paint over the desired area at a time in order to avoid re-applying paint to individual areas of the product. If the paint does not lie down as planned, after 2 hours you can repeat the procedure. It is important that by this time the previous layer is completely dry.

How to dye rubber boots

Rubber boots also lend themselves well to coloring, however, it is best not to change their shade entirely, but to apply a few touches that will improve the overall appearance of the model.

For such a material, acrylic-based colorants, enamel products or other compounds recommended by the seller of a specialized store are best suited. Rubber does not need to be degreased, unlike leather shoes. And it dries a little longer, it is better not to use it for 2-3 days after staining.

We paint shoes from nubuck

Nubuck shoes are a type of leather, and therefore also lend themselves well to changing or updating the shade. The main rule for dyeing such a material is that you should not apply paint from a cylinder to such a product too close to it, the color may turn out to be artificial.

How to paint shoe soles

The question of how to paint the sole of the shoe sometimes arises in cases where the dark color of the sneakers needs to be shaded with a snow-white base. The whole procedure is not too complicated and can be done fairly quickly. To do this, you need to perform a series of sequential steps:

• First, thoroughly wash the entire product, and the sole needs to be given special attention.
• Degrease the area to be stained.
• After the model has dried, you can start painting. To do this, use masking tape to make a border between the sole and the main part of the product.
• It is most convenient to paint this part of the shoe with a special spray.
• If necessary, the staining procedure can be repeated to make the shade more saturated.
• In the event that the heels of patent leather shoes are stained, they can be further treated with varnish.

How to dye fabric shoes

• having removed the laces from the shoes, you need to put as much crumpled paper as possible in them so that the product keeps its shape and the coloring is comfortable;
• if you plan to draw on shoes, you need to make a sketch with a sharp pencil;
• acrylic paint is considered the most suitable choice for decorating fabric patterns;
• after applying the coloring matter, it makes sense to use a special sealant that will protect the product from moisture;
• to decorate shoes made of fabric, you can use a variety of stencils, creating a unique model to your liking.

Dyeing shoes to give them a well-groomed look is a procedure that anyone can handle. The main thing is to carefully choose a coloring matter that will lie well on the surface of the shoes and follow the technology of its application. In this case, the product will delight you with its appearance and beauty for a long time.

With my old boots, detailed things happen all the time. And this time I'm really going to recolor them, firstly because I haven't worn this pair since I bought it and secondly, to create this post and help you do it yourself at home in your spare time.

Turning old shoes into new ones

For starters, I have to say that I'm pretty good at cleaning and polishing shoes, but when it comes to repainting shoes, I'm just as much of a novice as you are. More precisely, I dabbled in this several times, but still I do not consider myself qualified enough. However, with this post I want to show how easy repainting can really be, even for an inexperienced person like me. You know, probably the first thing you have to do is come to terms with the fact that you can screw up. But if, like in my case, you are not wearing the shoes you are going to repaint, then you have nothing to lose, right?

After good polishing and cleaning

Discoloration first

And now let's get down to business! First, it is worth discoloring the skin as much as possible. To do this, you can use a cleaner like Saphir's Renomat, or even something more serious, such as acetone or mineral spirits.

By itself, Renomat is a leather cleaner, but if you wipe the shoes with it hard enough, it will do a good job of removing the top layer of paint, and at the same time will remove any dust or other contaminants that may have accumulated on the surface.

Renomat is very good for light and medium shades, but for darker ones, starting from brown, you will have to use acetone or mineral spirits. Please note that you may need several of these cleanings. It all depends on what result you want to achieve. You don't have to go all the way to clearing your skin to a natural color unless you want a light color with a greyish undertone as a base.

Let the boots dry

After cleaning, you need to let the skin rest and dry, especially if you have walked on it several times, so leave it on for a while, and preferably all night. For real jacks of all trades, we have prepared other master classes:

Now, let's get to the fun part - painting. I used the special paint Saphir's Teintur Française as it is the best paint at the moment (according to fresco people). For frescoes, professional artists use very small brushes to apply paint, so I had to shell out for a couple of them. In my opinion, these brushes are ideal for our tasks. I purchased two brushes, one larger to paint large areas and one smaller to paint narrow little parts.

So, when all the materials are ready, simply start painting over the boot. Always start with a small amount of paint to see how quickly it absorbs. This way it will be much easier to control the whole process. You will likely need more than one coat to achieve good, deep color. The boot in the photo required 2 coats for each of the colors. It is very important to remember that each coat must dry before the next one is applied, so give the paint a few hours, and it is best to leave it overnight, in which case the skin will definitely have time to dry.

Completion

After applying and drying the paint, there is very little left to do to complete the repainting. All you need to do is carefully polish every inch of your shoes (shine will help your chosen color to show up even more). Immediately after polishing, coat the shoes with mink oil so that the leather does not dry out from all the chemicals that you coated it with before. Next, use shoe polish, preferably colored, and finally, apply wax.

The new color will stay with you forever, so don't worry about fading. Over time, if necessary, you can apply a small amount of paint to places where the color has lost its brightness due to natural causes.

Now you see that any pair of old shoes can come back to life and look like new!
